Tenchi is your average schoolboy up until he releases Ryoko from her tomb. After he acquires Yosho's sword he soon realises something is amiss. Ryoko and Ayeka are also surprised that he can hold the sword, as only those of royal blood can use the item.

Katsuhito is Tenchi's grandfather and teacher. He instructs Tenchi in sword fighting .

Noboyuki is Tenchi's dad. At the start of the series he works from home as a publisher, but later on moves out because the house is moved to another area. His bad habit is that he is a peeping tom and likes to spy on naked women.

Ryoko has spent 700 years entombed underground since being defeated by Yosho (Ayeka's half brother). After being released she sets out to destroy Tenchi. Has the ability to summon demons, fly through the air, turn invisible and pass through walls.

Lady Ayeka of the Jurai Royal Family arrives on Earth to hunt down Ryoko for destroying property belonging to the Royal Family.

Sasami is Ayekas younger sister. When she first meets Tenchi she plays a game which ends up with Tenchi being chased by Ayekas Guardians. When living in Tenchi's house she proves to be an excellent cook. Ryo-Ohki and Sasami become almost inseperable after his hatching.

RYO-OHKI.  After Ryoko destroyed her ship she returns to find an egg. This hatches to reveal the cabbit RYO-OHKI.  She is fond of Sasami but especially enjoys carrots which she can never get enough of.

Detective Mihoshi of the Galaxy Police is the niece of The Grand marshall. Clumsy is the word best describing her. On most occasions she ends up crashing her ship or upsetting Washu with whom she seems to have links to.
